How to plan the ultimate “get ready”

Get Ready Tips and Tricks for a Stress-Free Wedding or Special Event

Planning a wedding or special event can be overwhelming, but with the right tips and tricks, you can ensure that the "get ready" part of the day is as enjoyable as the event itself.

As a seasoned mobile hair stylist and makeup artist, I have gathered years of experience and witnessed all kinds of preparations. In this blog post, I will share my insights and recommendations to help you make the most out of this luxury experience.

1. First off, the space: Make sure you have ample space for stylists, makeup artists, friends, and family. Having everyone together in the same space if possible creates a fun vibe. Ensure there are enough tables, seats, and good natural lighting for the makeup artist. Stylists will need tables and power points to set up their equipment.

2. Food: Organize a variety of snacks, drinks, coffee, breakfast, or lunch for everyone involved, don’t forget to have the champagne chilled! It's essential to keep everyone well-fed and energized throughout the preparation process. Consider opting for catering services to simplify the food arrangements and reduce stress. Superhair0 is now offering a collaborative catering service with balance me for mobile hair and or makeup bookings so be sure to ask for menus, prices and booking forms if this interests you.

3. Vibes: Set the tone for the day by playing music that matches the desired atmosphere. Whether you prefer a relaxed or energetic ambience, great beats can uplift everyone's mood and create a joyful environment, making a playlist ahead of time is always a good idea, ask the others involved in the day to offer their input on this.

4. Clothing: Prepare comfortable button-up shirts or robes for when you get ready. Avoid wearing tops or sweaters that need to be pulled over your hair and makeup. Try on your outfits before the day to avoid any surprises. Make sure you have all the necessary tape, undergarments, and jewellery readily available. Additionally, consider steaming or ironing your clothes in advance to ensure they look perfect and that the equipment is sufficient.

5. Room temperature: This may sound crazy to think about ahead of time but I can’t tell you how many times I’ve been to a wedding get-ready and it’s a super hot day and there’s no air con, ok not the end of the world but also not ideal because getting ready in a really hot room is not fun for anyone and neither is a cold one so when you're looking at your getting ready location consider if it has aircon or a heat pump, especially if you're in the middle of summer or winter because no one wants their makeup put on while they sweat it off

6. Delegate: Create a list of tasks that can be delegated to someone else. Provide clear instructions, timings, and details to the designated individuals. Ensure you have communicated all your wants and needs with the appropriate vendors ahead of the day, this will alleviate your workload and allow you to focus on other aspects of the day.

7. Run sheets: If you have a large "get ready" crew, coordinate timings with your stylists and artists. Create a run sheet to ensure everyone knows when they will be needed for hair and makeup. Additionally, ask them to be available 30 minutes before their scheduled slot in case they are running ahead of time.

8. Hair: Prepare reference images and have hair accessories or hair extensions and veils readily available for your stylist. Follow their pre-instructions, such as washing your hair on the day and parting it as desired. Avoid using irons or curlers, and minimize the use of products or oils.

9. Makeup: Follow your makeup artist's instructions, which may include having a clean face and avoiding oily serums. For more detailed information on hair and makeup preparation, refer to my blog post on this topic.

10. Photographers: Coordinate with the photographers regarding the timing of hair and makeup sessions. Consider doing pretend hair and makeup shots towards the end, as they tend to be more flattering, we’re very used to making a concentrated pose so don’t be afraid to ask! Allocate time for group ‘robe’ pictures after hair and makeup to ensure everyone looks their best.

11. Transport: Ensure your drivers are well-informed about the event schedule and timings. This will help avoid any delays or last-minute rushes.

12. Mothers of the Bride or Groom: Remember that this day is special for the mothers too. Avoid overwhelming them with too many tasks and ensure they have the opportunity to be part of the memorable moments, such as putting on the dress and having their hair and makeup done. They have been dreaming of this day since you were born, so let them enjoy it too!

13. Venue set-up: Create detailed lists of tasks and delegate responsibilities to trustworthy individuals. Dedicate an hour or two at the beginning of the day to take care of the essential tasks you want to personally handle. Afterwards, leave someone else in charge so that you can focus on getting ready.

By following these tips and tricks, you can ensure a stress-free and enjoyable "get ready" experience for your wedding or special event. Remember to delegate tasks, communicate with your stylists and artists, and prioritize the comfort and enjoyment of everyone involved. Enjoy the process and create lasting memories on this special day! If you have any further questions or feedback, please feel free to reach out.
